Tell our readers how it all started and why bundt cakes.
I founded Mo’s Bundt Cakes in the midst of the pandemic after resigning to my corporate job as Vice President of Marketing. I had been playing around with the idea for a while but Covid allowed me the time to do research and start working on the business plan and branding. The whole concept was inspired by family recipes that I grew up with, so I’ve always associated these cakes with happiness. When we were all stuck at home during the lockdowns, I knew it was the perfect time to start something people could find joy in. I took a risk by walking away from the stability of a corporate job in favor of pursuing a creative career; essentially a passion project. And here we are today…

The original recipes are inspired by my Grandmother’s but these are not your grandmother’s cakes! Our signature Cinnamon recipe was the one that started it all, but our rotating flavors and our fun packaging really set us apart; our customers really know us best for taking the bundt cake to a whole new level. My mission is to make Bundt cakes cool. That’s why we offer unique flavors like Guava, Dulce de Leche, Nutella, Coquito, Cookies & Cream, Reese’s Peanut Butter, etc. I also wanted to introduce some of my Hispanic cultures to the flavors for the new generations.

The food industry is always changing where do you see your brand going?
Our focus is on creating a variety of bundt cakes that are perfect for special occasion gifting or just one of those days when you need to treat yourself. Mo’s Bundt Cakes is planning to introduce gluten-free and low-sugar cakes for those with dietary restrictions in the near future.

What is the hardest part of your business?
I’ve always been a risk-taker when it comes to business. For me, it’s about looking at the bigger picture. I think you have to be able to see the potential and focus less on what could go wrong along the way. Starting a new business is always a risk – you’re taking a gamble and hoping it will work, and there are a lot of unknown factors you may be betting against. Not to mention, the food industry has always been so competitive. It’s a challenge not only to have a good product but to also have a brand that is able to secure a solid position in the market.

We tasted your bundt cakes and they are mouth-watering if you can give a tip to someone about the food industry what will it be?
You need to find your niche, have a passion for it, and be patient. It is hard work and a very competitive industry but at the same time, everything is constantly changing. Follow your dreams and don’t give up.
